The key responsibilities of this role may include:
- Safety Engineering, including PHA, Safety Case, Siting Studies, Risk Analysis, Firefighting Philosophies, Risk Registers and Bow-Tie Development etc.
- Managing technical safety requirements for the project including HAZOP / SILA, Human Factors Engineering, PFP & AFP such as Fire Water systems, Fire Zone Drawings and Firewater System Design
- Participating in Hazop / SILA reviews as a Technical Safety Expert
- Participating in project reviews including fire risk assessments, 3D model reviews, plot plan reviews, HAZOP's and tracking action items to completion
- Coordinating with clients to incorporate Loss Prevention into design
- Reviewing and acceptance of 3rd party Hazop / SILA reports
- Dispersion modeling using PHAST
- PHA facilitation
- Applying Alberta Building Code Technical Safety requirements to the design
- Risk Management of identified actions to closure
- Developing Technical Safety project scope
- Controlling Technical Safety project budgets and progress
- Applying fire & gas detection philosophy to project, including reviewing of cause & effect diagrams
- Applying project and Alberta Building code requirements to ensure egress and access has been provided, by producing Egress Fire and Safety Equipment Layout Drawings
- Develop project required safety documents including Project Execution Plan, Risk Management Plan, Loss Prevention Philosophy, and Safety Plan
- Produced project safety specifications
- Development of Evacuation Route and Safety Equipment Layout Plans
To be successful the ideal candidate requires:
- Knowledge of NFPA, API, IEC, and other safety-related codes, standards, and recommended practices
- Process Hazard Analysis Training [PHA Facilitation]
- SIL Assessment, Validation, and Verification training
- Software capabilities including PHAST and PHA Pro
- Minimum of 3 years Technical Safety Expert exposure in oil and gas onshore
- Inherent knowledge of domestic regulatory requirements
Educational Requirements
It is expected the candidate will meet some of the following educational requirements:
- Recognized degree in the field of Engineering or Environmental Science
- PHA Facilitation
- Vocational Training specific to Technical Safety
- Diploma or certificates specific to Technical Safety
